Meet Shawnee: An ALICE and a Family Stabilization Participant

Shawnee is an ALICE, which stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed person. Shawnee represents the growing number of individuals and families who are working, but are unable to afford the basic necessities of housing, food, child care, health care, and transportation. Both she and her husband are employed, but with a large family, they struggled financially. Shawnee heard about JFS Orlando’s Family Stabilization program from a co-worker. Enrolled in the 6 month intensive program, Shawnee took classes to learn about resume writing, and how to make (and stick to) a budget. Her family was provided with clothes, food, rent and utility assistance. Shawnee is a proud and humble person. She learned it was okay to ask for help. Shawnee is now working on getting a pharmacist license.
