Rochelle ShoretzWe are deeply saddened to share that Sharsheret’s Founder and Executive Director, Rochelle Shoretz passed away of complications from breast cancer, a disease for which she created a community of support for thousands. The Jewish world and the cancer world have lost a true champion of women and their families. Shoretz founded Sharsheret in 2001, while undergoing chemotherapy. The organization provides health information and support services for Jewish women living with breast cancer or ovarian cancer, or who are at increased risk for those diseases. Jewish women of Ashkenazi descent are at heightened risk for certain genetic mutations that can lead to cancer. A graduate of Columbia Law School, Shoretz went on to clerk for United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She is thought to be the first Orthodox Jewish woman to clerk for a Supreme Court justice. Shoretz was a champion and role model for us all. Our condolences go out to Rochelle’s family and to all who were touched by this extraordinary woman. To learn more about Rochelle and Sharsheret  visit:
