On January 20, JFS Orlando was awarded a $40,000 grant from the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, a McCormick Foundation Fund , for its Family Stabilization Program during a surprise ceremony held at the Amway Center. The OMYF All-Star team was announced in the spirit of the MBA Draft. In all, 18 nonprofit organizations were recognized and $1 million in donations awarded.  The picture to the right shows JFS Orlando Executive Director holding their specialty OMYF basketball along with Michael McKee, President JFS Orlando Board of Directors proudly holding the check.

The Family Stabilization Program strives to improve a family’s overall stability and self-sufficiency through Eric and Mike OMYF resizedfinancial education workshops, employability workshops, mental health counseling, individual financial counseling and providing case management to help improve their educational or employment status.

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the Orlando Magic and OMYF,” said JFS Orlando Executive Director Eric Geboff. “Our services and programs are derived from a Jewish concept called Tikkun Olam – acts of kindness performed to perfect or repair the world. The OMYF grant plays an impactful role in supporting that philosophy.”

In 2015, JFS Orlando assisted 51 families through the Family Stabilization Program and is currently running at an 84% success rate. The success rate is determined by the completion of the 6-month program and improvement to their overall stability and self-sufficiency.

The Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund,  has awarded nearly 20 million over the past 26 years to local nonprofit organizations that assist at-risk youth with education, housing, and health and wellness programs.

JFS Orlando is proud to be recognized and congratulates OMYF on their 26 years of giving.
