Annual Community Projects
- Kinder to Kinder
Kinder to Kinder, a program that is now in its 10th year, brings a holiday celebration to a group home. This year we return to the Children's Crisis Center. The Chairperson, Bernice Walker Schwartz, conceived the idea of this program and welcomes young people and their parents to join in this very special project. Because we must limit the number of participants, contact the JFS office at 407-644-7593 if you are interested.
- School Matters
A back to school campaign.
School matters, that's why we want every child who comes through the doors at JFS to have the right tools. Give a kid a break, help him start the school year off right! Please bring in new school supplies: pencils, washable magic markers, ruled paper, safety scissors, glue sticks, crayons, folders, notebooks and new backpacks. Cash donations, marked "school matters" are also appreciated. Call Adrienne Gordon, Emergency Services Coordinator at 407-644-7593.
- Get Caught Caring
...a JFS Helps Mitzvah Project
Open your hearts to people whose holiday celebration will be sparse this year. No gifts for the children. No holiday meals. No joy. You can help... Your family can help. The best way to "get caught caring" is to give GIFT CERTIFICATES (in small denominations) from K-Mart, WalMart, Target and local supermarkets. This allows people to "purchase" their own gifts for their family and it brings dignity to their lives.
- Bloomingdale's Charity Benefit
Each year JFS participates in Bloomingdale's Charity Benefit where tickets are sold for $10.00 each (the entire ticket price goes to JFS) and it is your ticket to 15%-20% discounts off most merchandise at Bloomingdale's shopping benefit on October 27, 2005. When you arrive at Bloomingdale's, and turn in your ticket stub, JFS will receive another $5.00. Last year JFS shoppers helped us raise more than $2,000.
- Scott Laurent Collection
Shopping with a purpose. JFS and Scott Laurent Collection on Park Avenue in Winter Park, sponsor and Day and Evening of Shopping in time for the winter holidays. You buy your holiday gifts and 20% of your total purchase is donated to JFS! Watch for this years date and times and party while you shop at Scott Laurent. Remember proceeds benefit the JFS Holiday meal program, which provides kosher meals to homebound frail elders during all our seasonal holidays.
- The Feinstein $1,000,000 Challenge
Allen Shawn Feinstein of Rhode Island can't believe we have hungry people in our country. He began a challenge in 1998 encouraging agencies to hold food drives to help combat hunger. During March and April every year, JFS collects canned goods, accepts checks and asks local businesses and synagogues to hold food drives. JFS receives a portion of the one million dollars in proportion of the total amount raised by all participants. Each can contributed has a $1.00 value. Can we meet the challenge? You bet we CAN! Bring your cans or donations to JFS or to any organization sponsoring this food drive. Last year our Pearlman Emergency Food Pantry provided food for more than 72,000 meals!
